Dr. Katie Bonnema, Principal

Dr. Katie Bonnema serves as the principal of Blue Valley West High School, where she provides leadership and oversight for all aspects of the school’s operations. She began her career at Blue Valley West as a special education teacher and coach before shifting to an administrative role in the district.  She later returned as an assistant principal and then took a district administrative role overseeing Career and Technical Education programs. Her return to the building as principal reflects her deep commitment to the Jaguar community.

In her role, Dr. Bonnema is responsible for instructional leadership, budget management, crisis prevention and response, and ensuring a positive learning environment for all students and staff. She is committed to fostering a school culture that is student-centered and collaborative, with a strong emphasis on supporting teachers in their professional growth. Her leadership approach is grounded in the belief that student success is best achieved when teachers are empowered and supported.

Dr. Bonnema earned her undergraduate degree from Central College in Pella, Iowa, a master’s degree in Special Education from the University of Kansas and a master’s degree in School Leadership from Baker University. She also holds a doctorate in Educational Policy and Leadership from the University of Kansas.

Throughout her career, Dr. Bonnema has focused on building positive relationships and promoting a well-rounded student experience that allows students to achieve academic excellence while finding balance with other areas of passion and interest.
